1. The location is wrong, or hours old

What people report

This is the most common complaint by far. In one look at 146 recent 1–3 star reviews, 65 described a location that was late, frozen or simply wrong.1 Reviewers describe pins that stay put for hours, or jump between spots every minute or so.

How Outft handles it

No phone can promise a perfect location, so Outft is honest about it instead. Every pin shows how fresh it is. If a phone can't be reached because it has no signal, location is switched off or Outft was signed out, the map says so and why, instead of showing an old pin as if it were live.

2. Arrival alerts come late, or not at all

What people report

Reviewers report "arrived" alerts while someone was still half a mile away, delays of several minutes to an hour, and alerts that never come.1

How Outft handles it

Outft checks arrivals and departures on your kid's phone itself, against the places you set, so our servers never learn where home or school is. When a kid's phone goes quiet, Honchos can get a "Can't reach" alert, so a missing alert never looks like "still at school".

3. Battery drain and settings nags

What people report

Battery drain shows up in reviews, and so do repeated prompts to change battery settings, mostly on Android.1

How Outft handles it

Outft is built to go easy on batteries. It checks location more often only while someone is on the move.

4. Selling location and driving data

What people report

In 2021, The Markup reported that Life360 was selling precise location data from its users to about a dozen data brokers.2 In January 2022 Life360 said it would stop selling precise location data to most of them, keeping a deal with Allstate's Arity and selling aggregated data to Placer.ai.3 A proposed class action in 2023 accused Life360 of selling location data without permission.4 In January 2025, the Texas Attorney General sued Allstate and Arity, alleging they collected driving data through software in apps including Life360. Allstate denies the allegations.5

How Outft handles it

Outft never sells or shares your data, and there are no ads to pay for. Your family's location is end-to-end encrypted: only the people you share with can see it, not even us. The app has no ad, analytics or data-broker code in it. We make money one way: family subscriptions.

How Outft keeps your location private

5. Rides as a passenger counted as driving

What people report

Life360's help center says every drive starts out with you as the driver. You can change a drive to passenger, but it says that doesn't remove the drive from weekly driver reports.6 So a teen's weekly report can include rides where someone else was driving.

How Outft handles it

Rides as a passenger don't count as your teen's driving. A trip only counts if they say they were driving or it's their usual car. If a trip still looks wrong, they can flag it, with a reason like "I was a passenger". Speed shows as over a limit you choose.

6. Teens hate it

What people report

Teens have made Life360 a running joke on TikTok, and swap tips for getting around it.7 Life360 answered in 2020 with Bubbles, which shows a teen's general area for a few hours instead of an exact spot.8

How Outft handles it

When kids feel watched in secret, they find workarounds. So nothing in Outft is hidden from them. A kid can always see exactly what each Honcho can see, and when and how often they checked. Ghost mode lets them take a break from their Buds, never from their Honchos, and the app tells them so. Kids also get their own side of Outft, with their Buds and their crews.

Why teens push back, and what helps

7. Ads and notifications you can't stop

What people report

Some reviewers report ads in the app, including one covering a family member's location while they were trying to find her.1 Others say some notifications, like a weekly driving report, can't be turned off.9

How Outft handles it

No ads, ever, on any plan. Outft never sends marketing notifications, and you can turn off each type of alert on its own.

8. Support that doesn't answer

What people report

Life360 has a TrustScore of 1.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot. Reviews there often say support is hard to reach, or only a chatbot.9

How Outft handles it

You can chat with the Outft team from inside the app, from Me, then Get help. If you can't find someone, it tells you to call 911 first, then marks your chat urgent.

The bottom line

Life360 works for a lot of families. If you left because of one of the problems above, Outft was built with each of them in mind: honest about how fresh a location is, private by design, fair to your kids, and free to download. The basic safety features cost families nothing, and kids never pay.
